Within the teachings of the Old Testament, God specifically forbid the creation and worship of such images and statues. The book of Exodus clearly prohibits this practice, Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth: Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the LORD thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me (Exodus 20:4-5). Under the guise of being a Catholic “saint” (I must mention that the Roman Catholic Church has never endorsed or adopted Santa Muerte music), millions of Mexican Catholics bow a knee to none other than Satan himself. God further places prohibitions to worshipping any man-created or demon inspired deity: For thou shalt worship no other god: for the LORD, whose name is Jealous, is a jealous God (Exodus 34:14).
When I first saw the tee shirt, my first question was why would anyone want to wear a shirt that featured death so prominently in its design? The answer can be found in the book of Romans: Because that, when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened. And changed the glory of the uncorruptible God into an image made like to corruptible man, and to birds, and fourfooted beasts, and creeping things. Wherefore God also gave them up to uncleanness through the lusts of their own hearts, to dishonour their own bodies between themselves: Who changed the truth of God into a lie, and worshipped and served the creature more than the Creator, who is blessed for ever. Amen (Romans 1:25). Even these images declare that mankind chooses death rather than life; for God has placed before all of humanity the exact same choice: I call heaven and earth to record this day against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing: therefore choose life, that both thou and thy seed may live: That thou mayest love the LORD thy God, and that thou mayest obey his voice, and that thou mayest cleave unto him: for he is thy life, and the length of thy days: that thou mayest dwell in the land which the LORD sware unto thy fathers, to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, to give them (Deuteronomy 30:19-20).
For many, it may only be a tee shirt; however, it is not that innocent as there is no salvation offered from Satan or by death. Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved (Acts 4:12). Jesus is the only way, our belief in him is our only salvation. While the lost world has chosen death and its false god Satan, we have chosen to accept life. It may only be a tee shirt, but the message it conveys only adds confusion to a spiritually lost and dying world. I am sure that whomever designed the tee shirt and its evil design may have only been going for the aesthetic appeal, but for Christians, we should not participate by purchasing and wearing apparel that promote the Satan. We should keep in mind the warnings of the apostle Paul, as he wrote as he was led by the Holy Spirit, that we should Abstain from all appearance of evil (I Thessalonians 5:22).
