What our nation, as the nations in Europe have learned, is that outside of an absolute Creator-God, there is no foundation to build moral values. What many consider the liberation of the mind (an absence of a belief in God) is actually the enslavement of the mind to corruption. The hunger that only God can satisfy is rejected as being simply some sort of insecurity and now an attitude of if it feels good, do it permeates all aspects of society. In his letter to the Christians in Jerusalem, Paul discusses knew of the persecution of Christians by those in power in Jerusalem seeking to silence their message of forgiveness and redemption: Choosing rather to suffer affliction with the people of God, than to enjoy the pleasures of sin for a season (Hebrews 11:25). Sin is only pleasurable for a while then something else, something more exciting, more risky, more sensual must replace it. This is the reason that drug users constantly seek more powerful drugs than they originally started with. It is why so many young people practice risky sexual behaviors and experimentation. It is why so many young people resort to physical self-mutilation to seek something that makes them feel alive and in control. Without God, the path this lifestyle brings is death and an eternal separation from the love of God.
Jesus is the answer…
If we think back to what we were before we accepted the Lordship of Jesus in our lives, we know that many of us can see the same struggles the lost generation has today. We all know what it is like to feel alone, without any real happiness or joy, and the desperation to fill the emptiness with something that brings out joy and a sense of purpose. As Christians, we have the duty and responsibility to share the gospel with everyone we meet: And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature (Mark 16:15) and we are to do this without thought of the person’s appearance, job description, hair style, or even sexual orientation. The gospel of Christ is for all mankind for we all need the redemption and meaning to life that only Jesus Christ can bring.
