This is a lot like those college students mentioned earlier who have no idea they are failing. When they do realize they are failing, they frantically attempt to find a way to justify their grade in the course by claiming the syllabus was unclear, the exams were too hard, or that the instructor doesn’t like them. Instead of even trying to make an effort, they wait until the last minute. The sad thing is that there are people that approach Jesus on those exact same terms. Instead of hearing the gospel of Jesus and accepting it by faith, they see the Bible as a list of things they cannot do. They believe that God wants to deny them pleasure and joy and replace it with blind worship of something they cannot see. They try to understand God through the lost world’s sense of understanding the way that some college students simply cannot believe that the terms for earning a passing grade are as simple as stated in the syllabus.
Are you ready for life’s final exam?
Life’s basic question – everything you are and everything you have been and ever will be rests on one simple question that the Lord has proposed to mankind over and over: I call heaven and earth to record this day against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing: therefore choose life, that both thou and thy seed may live (Deuteronomy 30:19). Today, if something happens, would you be ready for life’s final exam? Would the Lord be looking for your name in the Lamb’s Book of Life or will He gladly welcome you home? This is one exam no one should ever desire to fail.
